News on the Unified Patent Court (UPC) this month has been like London buses – no news for months and then one update, followed by another, and now a third.

The latest news is that Christine Lambrecht, German Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection, has confirmed, following the decision of the Federal Constitutional Court that the German ratification vote in the Bundestag was void, the German Government will still seek to ratify the UPC.  This will likely involve a new vote in the Bundestag as well as possibly some other steps.

This news and how soon it comes after the Constitutional Court’s decision shows the German Government is committed to the UPC even if the future of the UPC is uncertain with the UK no longer seeking to take part.
