Though Mason’s technical background lies in Mechanical Engineering, his experience with drafting and prosecuting patent applications has mainly focused on software, artificial intelligence and machine learning, consumer electronics, video game technologies (including virtual/augmented/mixed reality), and telecommunications.

Mason graduated from the University of Sheffield with an integrated Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.  As part of his degree, Mason gained a year’s experience working at prestigious UK aerospace engine manufacturer.  His Master’s thesis outlines how convective acceleration of turbulent flows can cause turbulent eddy collapse.

Mason works with diverse clientele, ranging from multinational companies to private inventors here in the UK.  Such clients include global telecommunications brands, major players in the electronic cigarette industry, and household names in the video gaming sector.

Away from the office, Mason’s main passion is composing classical music.  He particularly enjoys composing for competitions, winning a competition in early 2023.  He also enjoys writing poetry, reading philosophy, and going to the gym. Most recently, Mason’s setting of Sheffield Nocturne by Katherine Towers was performed live by a 200-strong choir in Sheffield City Hall to an audience of over 1000 people.

Given his technical background and patenting experience, Mason’s specialisms are quite far-reaching.  He is particularly adept in the fields of:

  • Computer-implemented inventions
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Consumer electronics
  • Video game technologies
  • Electronic cigarettes
  • Fluid mechanics
  • Thermodynamics
  • Acoustics and vibrations
